How do you like the shocks? what size did you get and are they, h.d. or standard? Did you do the front springs too?
Also how do you like the 19" front tier over the stock 21"?

My shocks are standard 11.5 as I ride solo, I think they would be fine for 2 up as long as there adjusted to the max, depending on ther weight of the riders, as far as the ride they took some of the choppyness out of the ride, there not day and night difference as far as that goes. I will do the front springs this winter.
As far as the front tire I can't tell any difference in handleing, I like the look tho, nothing against the 21 it just looks like a bicycle wheel and tire to me.

I agree 100% on the looks of the 19" tire. I did think you would have some kind of improvement in handling. But since you dont feel there is a lot, I will stay with that 21" tire for now.
Tech support at Progressive told me, 190 lbs, solo riding, to go to the 12" standard, he said that will give me a little more travel then the stock 11.5 size,and a smoother ride. I will post this spring what I think of the 12" shocks. I will also have the fork springs installed too.

I went with 12.5" ones on my bike and I'm pretty happy with them. They didn't raise the end of that bike much at all and the travel is of the shock has been greatly increased.

I was thinking the 12.5" would raise the bike to much. Did you ever measure befor and after to see how much it raised? The guy at Progressive said the more travel the better the ride, it sounds like the 11.5" that 'thomasf59' got may not have the travel needed for a good smooth ride I'm looking for...Thanks.
I too am thinking of going with 12.5" std. spring Prog. 412s. I've had 11", 11.5" HD and currently 11.5" std. the ride is pretty good but not the best.
The other significant feature of going with the 12.5" is that the spring rate is 75-120 Iif I recall vs. 90-130 on the 11" & 11.5 std. thus being softer for better cushion along with more travel.
My bike is a 2005 XL1200C. I never measured how much the bike was raised, but it wasn't much at all (maybe half an inch or so). Here are some pictures of it with them on so hopefully it will give you some idea.
Here are some considerations. If you go with shorter shocks like 11", then the spring rate is stiffer and the ride is harsher. I am not sure at what height they start using a softer spring rate. Also, do you see the bolt by the rear muffler that goes through the rear wheel? If you raise the suspension up too high, then it will be covered by the muffler and you will have to remove the rear muffler when you replace the rear tire. On the XL1200R models that come with 13.25" shocks stock this is the case. There is even a notch on the stock rear muffler to help with clearance issues.
I consider the 12.5" shocks a good compromise. 12.5" shocks have a travel of 3.4 in., 11.5" shocks have 2.4 in., 13" shocks have 3.8 in.

They should be the same part number (what that means is that shocks for an '05 bike will fit on an '06). However, progressive recently made changes to their shocks and as a result the part numbers have changed so they will be different from what I have.
