The Sportster is supposed to be one of the number one selling bikes that Harley makes, but yet, on the road, I see 3 or 4 big twins to every one sportster I see.
Do people just buy the Sportster and let it sit in the garage?
Sportsters are ususally considered a starter Harley and may graduate or desire a bigger bike later in time.. Remember, most every Harley owner today has probably owned a Sportster to cut their teeth on... Ya know tender gums...
I think the Sportster is the best general use bike of them all because it is nimble, quick and sportie look'in.
So where are all the Sportsters?! Being passed down and around to the younger generations both male and female.
My Sportster is getting the royal treatment with a new paint set, brakes ect. while my Ultra is look'in on..
I tend to see a lot of Sportys here in SoCal, and lots of Glides of one stripe or another. A sprinkling of V-rods, too. What I don't see is a lot of Dynas or Softails.
My perspective is probably skewed, though, because we have a lot of military installations in San Diego, and I work on one, myself. So, it may be that Sportys are what the junior enlisted guys can afford, which is why I see more of them.

Seikin,...........You're probably seeing a lot more sportsters than you realize. Because of their versitility, they get customized into choppers. With the larger gas tanks, some saddle bags, luggage racks, etc. they also resemble the baggers. One of the benefits of owning a sportster. Its like a salamander, changing it's looks for the occasion.
Every time we go to the Cherokee Survivors rally, it seems like there are moreSportsters there than other bikes. At the HOG rally in Knoxville, the majority of bikes I saw were big twins. Two different rallies, though. Cherokee is full of hill- raising, all night partying. Total fun. Burn outs going at 2 AM. There are a lot of Sportster riders around our area.
