Default Crankcase Position Sensor

Has anyone had this problem? I was fouling plugs as fast as I could put them in. I installed a new S&S Super E. (almost $500) and still had ths same problem. Now my mechanic is saying it might be the crankcase position sensor. I have an '06 1200L. It won't idle. He rejetted the carb today, and, no help. I had a DaVinci jet kit installed before.. I'm running out of patients.

Seems I recall reading about a number of them going bad over onhttp://xlforum.net/vbportal/ you might try a search over there. Pretty simple fix I thinkand if ya got an 06 under warranty should be covered but dealer would have to swap it for you.

It could be the sensor or the ICM. Either one can throw off the timing. I'm assuming that you're sure the plugs are fuel fouled, not oil fouled.

I did a little reading over on XLforum about it and the CPS was more commonly going bad on 04-05 models. Some diagnosed it by reading the diagnostic codes that you can access through the speedo. IF it is your CPS and your past warranty the part is simple replacement you can do and costs less than $50 if I recall.

mine went bad at around 7,500 miles...it wasnt causing any kind of plug fouling..mine would usually act up after riding for 20-30 miles..it would idle up and down and would seem like it was gonna stall(but didnt) the engine light would come on while it was doing this..it would only do it for around 30 seconds and go back to normal and the engine light would go out..it took the dealer almost a week to figure it out..and when i dropped it off i told them i already researched the problem and told them it was the cps..they ran the diagnostics on it and thats what it was..but they didnt replace it till they could get the bike to do it again and create another code...but since its been replace all is good...your problem doesnt sound like the cps but i could be wrong..i for your sake i hope it is because its a cheap easy fix..

Had the same problem on my 06 1200C. Same symptoms. Took it to the dealer, showed them the bad idle and said it was the crank position sensor. They looked at me like they didn't have a clue. When I picked up the bike, they said it was a bad crank position sensor. Go figure. Is it still under warranty?

No, it's not under warranty. At this point I don't care, I just want my bike back. Thanks for all your responses. Hate to have to take it back to the stealer.

Pull error codes out and that should tell you where to look.
