Serves his a$$ right
People are upset because you kicked a guy while he was down not because you didn't stick around to help. It dose not matter what the reason is you don't kick someone when they are down. It shows a lack of character and is not something most would of bragged about.
I think you missed the point.

Some of that have been riding a long time haven't gone down - yet.
For example I have been down twice on the street in the last 39 years of full time year around riding. The first time was when a fence plank lifted off a rack over the bed of a pickup I was meeting. The plank flew over into my lane and hit me in the head.
The second time was when a 76 year old man highballed out of a parking lot with the intent to cross several lanes of roadway. When he saw there was a median in the road that would prevent him from reaching the far lane, he turned to try and go with the flow of traffic. I couldn't see him coming because of a stopped 18 wheel Coke truck and ended up hitting him.
I attribute my crashes to luck, bad luck. Think of the odds that I would be at a spot on the road where the board, or the old man, would be at the same time? The key word in the quote above is "yet". My father hasn't gone down either in over 50 years, but he doesn't ride much. The 'variable' factor. Just don't get too complacent, you never know when some strange thing can happen.

his big toe caught in the front sprocket on his bike, lopped off the toe and it was laying there on the sidewalk...

I rode my bike as a kid once without shoes on and tore up my big toe. Lesson learned, never did it again. I must have been like 5 years old.

That right there ain't a Damn bit funny !!!!!!! I hope you were wearing a helmet!
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Yes I was wearing a helmet. The funny thing is that I didn't always wear a helmet back then, it was in 6/71, but I was wearinga3/4 that day. By the time I stopped tumbling and sliding my chin had hit the road and resulted in a cut that took a few stitches to close. I have worn FF since then.

Riding motorcycles is just inherently unsafe. And I say this as someone who doesn't ride particularly conservatively or safely. If you increase that risk by choice, then you only have yourself to blame.
This is a case where a motorcyclist made the wrong choices. The original poster stopped, and checked to ensure that a fellow member of the fraternity had been taken care of.
As far as I can tell, there's no harm, no foul.
