Starting to notice that HD is putting the full floating disks standard on their bikes...my guess is a move to phase out the solid disks. I noticed a few fatbobs sitting on the dealer floor with stainless linesbrake lines, got the impression they were standard on this model also.. but not sure.
HD's crappy brakesseem to be the biggest complaint with the moto-mag testing. With the ABS and brembo'sbecoming standard on the big boy bikes...my guess is they will eventually make brembo's and full floaters without ABS standard on the "smaller" bikes.
I've locked up my front single caliper 2002 sportster. The brakes are not junk for normal riding. For racing ...junk, but keep in mind the rubber lines when racing.
The floating discs are close in price to regular discs. Once I wear out my discs again (~2yrs) I will try floaters.
