I've replaced 1 in 25 yrs, that was due to a bad ground. Im on the original on my XL which has 25k.
I must be very lucky.

I bought my 1994 XLH883 last year replaced the stator and regulator had to replace the regulator again this week wish mine would have been on recall. Harley's new 12 month parts warranty cover's electrical too. Only has 32,000 miles on the bike but I will probably get a cheap aftermarket extra for a backup.

Any idea why it went bad? Did it have signs of overheating? If so is check the ground. Jump starting incorrectly can fry them too. I think either you had bad luck or more likely something is causing it to fail. If I replace an electronic part more than once in a year or two I start looking for the cause.
My brother replaces his battery every year, but never looks for the cause. I've replaced about 3 in 25 yrs.

Well guys hello from the dyna section, my reulator has 48k miles on it and just went this weekend while I was away on a trip. so ya never know.
