Cbass68 I like your seat, where did you get it, and how comfortable is it. Thanks.

Not sure about other areas of the country but, in VA...if price is your concern (and who's isn't right...?), used is the way to go. I bought my '06 1200C (in November) with about $2,500 worth of mods/accessories (4,000 mis) for $7,500. Even at that, I feel I paid $500 too much compared to other deals out there. Original owner paid $9,500 plus mods/access. $4,000 loss in 16 months...? New is not worth it...
Buddy of minejust bought an '06 1200L with 1,100 miles ($500 of upgrades) for $6,595...Bike is showroom condition. Blue Book retail is over $8,200 with no upgrades...
With bike shipping readily available and pretty common these days, doubtful this is a "regional issue"...H-D has definitely flooded the market
I agree with sugarland [sm=smarty.gif]. Harley has tons of money and you don't get that way without knowing where or how to spend money. There are the few and far between rare deals out there but they're not the standard. most cheap harleys r either broke and in need of repairs or old. Or its a bike they haven't sold in a while and just want to get rid of. otherwise if you look in either private ads or dealer ads you'll find prices close to that of the new price. Ofcourse used is going to normally be cheaper than new but thats true of everything. Harley can afford to flood the market because they're Harley, the orignal. they r the only manufacture everyone else is trying to look and sound like. Just aboutanybody(meaning your average joe)who buildsa custom starts with a Harley. That says something and the simple fact that since the advent of the combustion(or close to it)engine there have always been Harleys.
Now all of this is being said in a general sense of course there r specific situations that will contradict, but that is not the norm.

The original title on the 04 1200C I Just bought showed the purchase price at $11,140 (I assume with some extras, etc).

I just bought it with 4,000 miles on it for $5650 - basically 50% depreciation, and it is very, very clean bike. I personally think the used motorcycle market in general is tanking - HD included.

You see guys in Cycletrader asking high prices - but they are not getting them. Those ads sit there forever.I watched about 50 ebay auctions before I bought my bike - Sportsters and Deuces primarily. Most auctions ended without ever getting a bid or never reaching reserve. Those that did actually sell (no-reserve auctions) went for WAYYYY less than those cycletrader prices.

New is worth it when you want to own it from the very start and know EVERYTHING that it has been through and EVERY problem it has. I didn;t want a used bike even if it only had 2000 miles on it. That could have been an abusive 2000 miles that I don;t want to find out about later.

Just my opinion.

That's strange... I live in Idaho (not exactly metropolis) and work at a dealership in Boise. We are still selling Nightsters like crazy (even in winter)... Of course, our dealer is ranked 11th in sales in the nation (2nd in the entire western region). A new Nightster for $7995.... That literally sounds insane. Are their freight and set-up charges $1000 a piece?... Lots of dealers are running that scam... Making their profit in dealer costs... shady.
You work for Jamiee???

[/quote

No, I work at High Desert... Jamie is the GM of Birds of Prey (our satellite store).... I know Jamie though.... Cool guy

I've got a bunch of money in my Sportster....

People say it all the time..."You'll never get your money back"...

They don't seem to understand that some of us actually buy what we wanted in the first place and have no intentions of selling it...[8D]

But I will agree that the Harley glut is on... and the smart person should go used when buying...

The bike I have now is the only Harley I ever bought new....

To be honest with you... the only difference I can see between it and the used ones, is on the odometer... I put every mile on it.... but sheez.... how much is that worth....

I say buy used.... then if you don't like it.... you may not loose a dime when you go to sell it.... can't say that for new... you're gonna loose you A$$ everytime...[:@]

In 06 when I bought my rk, the used bikes were priced at nearly new prices so what the heck, I gotta new one. Now I would buy a used bike for sure.
