The Key to Better Gas Mileage!!!
Ride in sub-freezing temps which force you to stay off the throttle 
I topped off the tank (keep it full during winter storage) after 74 miles on the trip od... I put in 1.5 gallons... which for me is a record! (approximately 50mpg).
I can only attribute this to the fact that I don't ride nearly as "aggressively" in winter conditions.
I have learned my lesson friends... I will no longer twist the wick and let 'er rip.......... LMAO...... Yeah right..... F!@k gas mileage anyway [8D]

Actually I get much worse gas mileage in sub-freezing weather......Difference between carb and EFI.
I guess we've finally found an advantage to the EFI sportys. In really cold weather, I gotta take much more "warm-up" time with the "enricher" pulled out.
I get about 10% less mpg in the winter than the summer.

LMAO! It always cracks me up when people act like 40 mpg isn't great. Here's my cold weather daily driver. I get between 13-14mpg. With the windshield folded down, my Wiley-X's on, and the actual Harley brand mirrors on when my doors are off, it almost feels like a Road King! It's what I use for 2 up riding, lol. Of course, in winter mode, there's doors and a hard top involved...
