Interesting take guys. I am all ears for sure. My question is this, if it robs performance..why would you put it on a custom bike? Or why would they be used on the drag strip? I honestly don't know so I am just playing devil's advocate here.. You don't know till you ask.
They are put on custom bikes for looks. A conventional velocity stack is great for performance, but those are run without air filters. Those perform very well, but they don't filter anything. On a drag engine that is rebuilt every race or every few races they can do that. However, running on the street without an air filter will cut the life of your engine significantly.
The one you showed has a very tiny air filter. That's where the problem lies. The surface area of the air filter is too small to properly feed your engine IF if filters well. So if it filters well, the surface area is too small, and it will signficantly cut performance. However, if it doesn't cut performance, then the filter does not filter well and then you are back to getting crap into the engine that cuts longevity.
Got it. Thanks 1200c, great explaination.. The other AC I like is the Forcewinder and the Big Sucker. My hold back with the Big Sucker is the problems with blow-by. I know there is a mod out there but I really like the vent method. So maybe the DragTron II, any experience with those? With that AC I can do the blow-by venting that I like. I know I hate the HAM CAN!!

If you just care about the performance gains, then there are air filters that have a velocity stack in the backing plate. Since you don't like the ham can. The powerpacc is a great round air filter with a velocity stack in the backing plate. It is, however, more expensive than other air filters.
By putting an air filter inside a velocity stack you either have to sacrafice filtration or performance. By putting an air filter around a velocity stack you get to keep both filtration and performance.

I like that cleaner. Do they sell any good looking covers for them? Anyone know of any issues with cleaner? Is a little pricey but not compared to the forcewinder. Do both provide about the same gains?
OH nevermind I should look befor asking... I see they have one that uses the S&S tear drop... Hum may need one of these. How do I know if I need to rejet if I buy it? Also how the hell do you know what jets to use? I am carb stupid. Not tring to thread jack but now you got me thinking..
Also would this filter add much if any performance over the SE cleaner?

I looked at the dragtron and it looks good. It seems to have a small stack in it's backing plate similar to the HurricaneFlow. The price is what sets it apart. For $85 the price is nice. It does appear to have a foam air filter instead of a K&N. There are differences in flow between foam and K&N. I have no experience with the dragtron, but it seems worth trying.

I got some info from the Velocity guy... kinda hit & miss...

This particular filter element is not measured in microns. It is measured in Pores Per Inch. Ours are a 60 PPI. This works on most stock to mildly modified bikes. It filters a lot more than the screens. It is a dry filter (no oil) that can be washed. For highly modified bikes we also offer a kit that uses a 30 PPI filter. It has the opening size similar to the screen but since it is a 1/4" thick foam there really isn't a straight shot through it like a screen so it does a better job than the screen of trapping dirt. At this time I am out of 30 PPI material. I've only sold one with this material and it was cut from a sample piece from our foam vendor.
Is this going on a CV or S&S carb? If an S&S we have the units now for the S&S E & G series carb so no adapter is required. We just have not finished the pictures to put them in either of our stores. But they are in stock and ready to ship as are the CV ones.

I am not comfortable with this info. It was nice of him to actually get back to me. And he was not afraid to answer some #'s questions I had but.. I'm thinkin more performance now... I have the SE on there now and it's #'s look pretty good from that list. I think I will step it up a bit and check outthe Cyclesmiths or Rivera..
