Default 2007 XL883 Handle Bars

Hello,
My Sportster comes with stock handlebars where it makes me sit leaning forward, like on a sport bike. Not a very comfy position, since I usually sit up straight anyway while waiting on traffic lights. Could someone recommend a brand or type of handlebar for 2007 HD Sportster that will make me sit more straight? I'm 5'7". I'm thinking about going to a dealership and see what types of handlebars they have on the bikes sitting in the showroom, but that would be limiting my choices since I doubt they have large selection.

So, can anyone recommend good bars? Also, is it usually hard to install? Would it be easier to install risers instead of getting a completely new handlebar? Would I also need new cables?

Thanks

The R and Nightster bars are a lot more comfortable than the standard XL ones. Both should fit with no mods to the cables. I'm switching to the nightster ones myself.

Midav,

You need some bars that have slightly more pullback than stock. Be sure you sit on an XL883 Low, they have buckhorn handlebars which are different than yours and have more pull back but should install fairly easily. Your other option is to try the 4 inch curved risers that HD sells, they go 2 inches up and 2 inches back which might be enough for what you think is comfortable. I'm unsure if these two options would require any changes to your cables.

I checked out the Buckhorn handlebars and they look and feel great. No forward leaning at all. I'm ordering those and had to get brake line and clutch line as well.

Anyone installed these bars on Sportster before? Anything else i might need during the installation?

I was also thinking about upgrading to Kuryakyn hand grips while I'm at it. I should get the ones for 1" bar, correct?

I had a set of '06 Dyna Low bars on my 1200 C and changed to '07 XL1200/883 Low bars (buckhorns). I actually liked the feel of the Dyna Low bars better than the buckhornsbecause they werewider than the buckhorns and placed your hands in a more natural position. I changed to the buckhorns because I wanted a little more pullback (I am also 5'7").
'06 Dyna Lowbars are 31" wide, 5" rise and 9" pullback - $54 for polished stainless.
'07 XL Low bars are 28" wide, 6" rise and 10" pullback - $71 for chrome.

If your handlebars make you lean forward as much as a sport bike, you have a problem. I don't lean forward at all with my stock bars...crazy. Must have long arms or something...
