I have a new 1200C Sportster and am considering a windshiel, removable type, for trips. Some people tell me that it can act like a sail on a sailboat and make it hard to handle on certain conditons like going over causeways, etc. Anyone have a windshield on their Sportster or opinion...
imo.....most sporty windshields cause quite a bit of turbulence. Not in a bad way, but in the way thatthey will suck most everything out of yer pockets.
I personally don't like a windshield on my sportster, but on long rides and cold weather they are hard to beat. I bought a Memphis Shades quick detachable. The model is the Diablo. Has a sporty look to it, not the cruiser look. I've never had a problem with wind buffeting or it acting like a sail. Handling is fine. Sure is nice on long rides, cuts down on fatique... I don't use it in the warm weather for short rides (300 miles or less) but for long rides I'll put it on. Check JP Cycles, search for Memphis Shades.

Well, where do you do most of your driving? if you drive over nothing but causeways, then I'd worry about it. Seriously, otherwise I would decide if you want to hold onto the bars for dear life while driving down the road at 70mph or not. Some do, some don't. Me? I always have a windshield and don't get tired on long trips. Others would not be caught dead with one on their bike.
Decide if you do mostly slow, 30mph in town or not; if you do, maybe you won't think you need one at all.
windshields make me ride significantly faster. 70 is hard work without a shield, 90 is a breeze with one.
Its night and day. I will always own one. I might not run it all the time but I will have it on if Im going very far.
I have a windshield, and use it on long trips. In town, and on short trips I take it off. The windshield works wonders for me on long rides, but I know others would rather not have one.
Look at the Memphis Shades at Phat Performance Parts as well.I just ordered areplacement shield and it was a little cheaper than J&P Cycles.
I use a Memphis Shades El Paso. I bought it from yet another dealer. My advice is to do a search for "Memphis Shades" and check out the prices, including delivery charges, at various dealers. Some sites also have a photo of the different model shields on different models of bikes.
