Here's what you do......Remove baffles with correct size allen wrench......Run bike and see if vibration goes away......If so, and if like mine, then simply take a hammer and or vise and slightly 'egg-shape' the front of each baffle, then test fit to where you keep bending until baffle is mo-difficult to install.
Mine had slight rattle at first...I found it by banging pipe at rearmost end with my palm...determined it was front of baffles fitting kinda loose.....squeezed them down a bit in the vise and all has been good.
Sure enough yodaddy, I followed yer advice yesterday, I could hear the baffle on the rear pipe vibrating when I hit it with my palm, and tapped the end inside with my index finger, definitely loose, and I TOTALLY missed seeing that allen screw to tighten that thing. I havent run them without the baffles yet, but my gut is telling me after what youve said that is what the vibration was. I tightened my screws on both pipes. If I need to bend later, then I'll go to that step, sounds like a good plan to me.
I just got off the phone also with the seller,he wascool to talk with, was a long distance number, but the guy was ok, and courteous. He basically said the same thing you just did yodaddy, but he did say an exchange could be done after if I wasnt able to solve the problem with the baffle tightening and they were ok with that if nothing fixed the problem.
For the money, this company couldnt bebeat at 295 out the door with 20 shipping and handling added on. But also, sometimes its like they say, you get what you pay for, but they do a lot of volume business and have good feedback. Just have to see if the pipeswork right now. And then I can get bill his slip-ons!
Thank you all and Ill post some morejunk when im done.have a good day gang
on the upper tube (the rear pipe) when you fitted to the bracket, did you have to bend or have any troubles getting it to sit on the bracket? I have them and No problems, but i have a buddy with the scallop cut ones on his Soft tail, that he had to file out the bracket hole a bit to make them fit correctly and there for not have the bolts retract because of vibration
heyas kawasakim yeah the rear pipe and the front pipe fit ok on the bracket on mine. I think that rear pipe wagged alot, but im hoping to see how it does now that the baffle is tightened in
better. I feel like such a doofus missing that allen screw, I thought them suckers was welded in like my old cycle shacks. I was definitely excited and in too big a hurry putting them on, and they did work perfect at first.
hey gang great pic there btw kawa. anyhow, just an update, problem solved on the bike, vibration is gone gone gone. tightened the allen screws on both pipes to make sure, did a complete reinstall. learned the hard way not to let a screw strip on a exhaust stud, the whole stud screwed out *yikes*. but got it all back right with a new stud, workin in a sears shed with a little light and a space heater. the pipes sound and look good, im ecstatic! i want to thank you guys for puttin up with my doofy thread and mental lack of smartness here. and in the future yodaddy i may do that bending like you were talking about if they rattle again.
thanks all!
i appreciate the help, this place is a definite godsend.
