Just about every Sportster I ever saw with a tank bra was owned and ridden by the girls!! Mainly for looks as the girls like some leather...
I consider them to be like seat covers... People now adays buy seat covers to protect their seats of for looks.
IN the old days people bought seat covers to cover up an old worn seat and make the seats look near new again.
I would only use a tank bra to cover up something... scratches etc.. As a protector to prevent scratches, well no tank bra for me as they do hold condensation and will cloud the clear coat.... and if left on for a long time you will have a two-tone tank due to the UV differences..
As a matter of fact the tank bra is actually backwards and the open edge is a dust and grime collector //
Yikes, I installed one when I purchased my bike to prevent zipper scratches as I saw alot of scratches at the dealer when I was looking at new bikes. I took mine off today and there is a definately noticeable area of rubbing on the sides. I will try to buff it out, but from here on out it is braless for me. Good idea, poor execution.
