Starting to get back into riding after a long break. Just went from a Buell Blast to a 06 883 Sportster. Question on neutral, am having a hard time getting it into neutral at a stop. While moving not much problem but at a stop almost impossible. Any ideas.
I have the exact same problem with my 1200C. I can easily get it into neutral if the bike is rolling but it is difficult at a compete stop. Sometime I find if I rock the bike back & forth a few times then try I can hit neutral.
I had the same problem at first. If you're holding on to the front brake while trying to nudge the gearshift into neutral, it might be difficult. Try rocking the bike very slightly front to back while getting into neutral - it should slip in much more easily that way. Good luck!
man, i thought it was just me. My last non H-D bike had a "neutral finder". It basically never missed.
This one takes a few tries to get it right, and i thought i was just doing something wrong. Rolling to a stop sign i usually get it right, but if i stopped maybe one in four tries. I feel like a dork, going up and down as gently as possible to get it to go into neutral.
If you leave it in gear when you stop, you have the chance to get out of the way before you get rear-ended. In neutral, chances are you will not move in time.
Maybe HD was looking out for your well being when they made it hard to shift from a stop. [&:]
BUT I'm not talking about at a stop light. I'm talking about in my driveway, my garage, a parking lot. There are other times you need your bike in neutral and it's hard to get there.
I'll admit after a long day of riding I am looking for neutral every chance I get because my clutch is so hard to pull after riding all day and messing with it I am praying not to have to hold the clutch in....that's usually when it's REALLY hard to find neutral.
