So I put my new Quick release HD windshield on the Sporty yesterday and took it for a cruise. Everything is great until I get over 50mph then the buffering shakes my head so much I get a headache...any ideas on how to fix this? I can go up or down about 1/4 - 1/2 inch...I am 6' 2" and my line of site is about 3 inches above the top of the windshield.
Maybe I should just sell the thing...sucks to drop $350 for something thathas 18 miles on it.
Take it up as far as it will go. You should just barely see over the windshield. Or, you could play with the angle a little bit and see if that helps. If you can't make it work, you'll have to get a taller version, or leave it off.
When you are running at 50+, try tucking your legs/knees in against the sides of the gas tank and see if that makes a difference. Many times, it's airflow comming up from below that causes the buffetting. It thats the case a taller shield won't help. The ideal shield height is about inline with your upper lip.
There could be some other contributing factors and this has been discussed at length on the forum.
Try all of the suggestions posted. I just cut down my shield by 2" to get it to nose level, but I never had a buffeting problem to start with. Cut it down because it interferred with my line of sight and was especially bothersome at night.
Angle has a lot to do with it, and I think the Dyna Low Rider has a little more rake up front than a Sporty, which will change the air flow. A helmet will have some effect and there is a substantial amount of air coming up from underneath the shield. I noticed I get a lot less of that with the large fork bag I have.
It's a strange phenomonen in that some folks have it, some don't, and there's no explanation for it.
Good luck.
Another factor is if your using a half helmet with visor the visor makes it worse and like Charley said, that up draft when your legs are spread causes a lot of it. I've actually had mine off for months and wearing a FF helmet but now that its getting a littlewarmer and when its windyI put it back on and wearing the half. Some trial and error with hgt. and loosening the top mounting bolts (where the shield connects to the quick rel. mounts) and tilting it fwd. or back can make a big difference in the buffetting as well. They all do it but most of us fine tune it or live with it.
