Anyone familiar with the filter replacement type oil coolers? if so do they work or just a waste of money.
Would I be better of going with a style that mounts on the down tube? Thanks
*You don't show where you live. If you're riding all the time in 118 degree Arizona temps, an oil cooler MAY be a good idea; otherwise,it's a waste of money, ugly, and just another failure point.
Running straightBassinni pipes with a forcewinder intake this thing runs much hotter than normal.
Sitting in the middle of Sturgis in Aug. trying to get through the traffic and the pavement has got to be 120deg. there is no kind of oil that can take that for long.
I've developed leaks in extremely hot weather at the breathes in the rocker box's.
Trying to cool it down a bit! That heat can't be good!
Just a heads up on the fans - have a friend with one who used it in AZ this past summer:
The fan blow all that hot air straight thru the jugs onto your leg and cooks it like a roast. Actually gave him a burn. He swapped wires to run it "backwards," but then it didn't have the power to pull air thru the jugs. Just sucked it from around the fan cover.
If it's hot enough to cook your leg, then I guess it's working fine. Probably cools your bike better than anything else available because you have to shut the motor down when your pants catch fire!
Mine cooks my leg without a fan!
Thanks for all the replies.
I'll convert to synthetic oil and not worry about my legs and crotch any more.
Any suggestions?
