Default Bigger tank (gasp) for Nightster?

I know, I know - but I am curious. I've done a search and found threads about the POSSIbILITY of putting a bigger tank on a Nightster, but has anyone actually done it and if so, do you have pics??

I don't know of anyone that's done it. At least not here. What would be cool would be to find someone that could make a tank for you, or someone that already does make them. Get the same "peanut" shape, only a little bigger, like 4.5 gallons. I think you'll be very disappointed in the look of the bike with anything but the peanut shaped tank.

You're right about the looks. I just wish I had a little more gas capacity because unlike many, I do plan on some longer trips on my Nightster, and I travel with a group that all have bigger tanks. As it is now, when hubby and I head up to Vermont where many of our friends are, I cannot make it all the way without one stop. I ALMOST make it.

No offense to other model Sportster riders, but I am just not crazy about the look of the tanks on them. I do wish there was another style option available. It may be that I'd have to do what you suggest - find someone to do a custom job for me. In which case it will have to wait a while because I am sure that the cost would be more than my pocketbook can handle right now.

I found this. It's a 4.1 gallon (hey, half a gallon more is another 20-25 miles, right?) A stretched tank such as this might fit and fill the gap between the tank and seat.

And here's a 6 gallon, for only$99.00. Would have to call them and see if it would fit, but it still has the peanut shape.

Ya know, that really doesn't look bad! I saw some other "stretch" tanks somewhere and wasn't crazy about them. I will bookmark that link and give it some thought. THanks!!

I'm pretty sure you have to get one from an EFI bike.

I wish I had a little more gas volume on my nightster, but think it will kill the look.

just my opinion, but hey I am changing out the wheels on mine. Most people think changing the wheels will take away form the look.

If you get it done, post some picks.

I think whatever I do to my bike now, or down the road, I would try to at least maintain a look close to the "old school" look. That's what attracted me to it in the first place. (In fact, I am changing my bars back to the stock handlebars, but with a slightly taller riser, because although I like the buckhorns shown in my sig pic, I really think the stock bars look the best!)

I am going to take my longest trip yet in May (from Massachusetts to Myrtle Beach). I know I'll be the reason we have to stop every 115 miles (that's as far as I dare go). But hey - everyone else will be glad for a reason to stop and stretch - we aren't a bunch of young pups any more

I put a 4.5 gallon on my 883. It's simple. Get a tank (hit ebay and have it painted if you want to save a few $$$), switch out the pump/pickup unit. Then it's a direct bolt on. The seat will also have to be changed. I scored a Mustang on eBay for about a buck and a quarter. *thumbs up*

The peanut tank is just too small for any real riding.
