Default Ok to own a sportster??

Ok I need some opinions. I owned a metric bike, sold it got a new Electraglide, fell on hard times and had to sell it. I am dying for another bike, and metric is not an option for me, but can only afford 1200 sportster. I'm 5'10 198lbs, hear comments about being too big for a sportster and they are a girls bike. Am I wrong or is a Harley a Harley? No one ever says a small metric bike is a chic bike. I just don't get it.

A Harley is a Harley and if you think a sportster is a girls bike, trying hanging on to one as you goose it up to 90 mph

Look, we hear this crap all the time. Get a bike or don't. If you are worried go on the dresser forum and ask them.

If you never rode one then I would suggest you either rent one or find a dealer with a demo day. With a sportster with fowards you will be fine since you will have actually more reach then your last bike. The only concern I see is the ride. It will not be as smooth and comfortable as the bagger on the highway and if that is what you were used to then you might be a little disappointed. Like comparing apples to oranges.
