Starting up question
Here's my question on a 1991 xlh 1200: (Brand new battery) This usually happens after I've been riding a bit and pull over and shut it down-- When I try to restart nothing happens (no sound, not even clicking). For the first 2 or 3 tries, I'll flip the kill switch couple of times, turn the key off and on, then after about 2 or 3 presses on the start button, it will start. I'm thinking I'm not holding down the start button long enough? Is it the starter? Or is this normal?
Thanks again...
When you are hitting the start or run buttons after the initial failure to start, you are also moving or shaking the bike to a minor degree. This shaking is frequently enough to make sufficient contact for it to start.
There should be no reason, "...thinking I'm not holding down the start button long enough...".
My brother in-law had the same problem. After I checked all connections ofthe battery and starter, started to wiggle the key and I would get it to startand then it wouldn't. So I replaced the ignition switch and the problem was fixed.
