Need some advice, just imported ths filter from the USA to the UK for my 07' 1200C.
Enountered a problem when fitting the the filter.
I disassembled my filter, removed the stock breather bolts, and began to assemble as per the K&M instructions I'm good at that ask my other half...!!)
I inserted the new breathers assembled the filters back plate and velocity stackand then offered the assembly to the body of the carb.
I loosely fitted the stock breathers and then methodically screwed in the hex bolts to the carb and then eventually tightening the breathers to secure the plate.
My problem is i have a gap between the back plate and carb body, I cant overtighten as this will bend the aluminium backplate.
My guess is this shouldt exactly... I have done something wrong..? I dony have any 'left over' pieces... I'm at a loss..
Just looking at the "destructions" I would say to check that you only used 2 washers on the breather bolt extensions (not 4) and that the velocity stack is installed correctly (from the front, not the rear). Otherwise you may be needing a thicker gasket.
I guess the thicker gasket is probably the right route. I actualy removed the two washers from the fit - still didn't give me a flush seating.
Apologies for the poor grammar and spelling mistakes, riding the last train back from Charing Cross (London) to rural Kent its a bad line we call this train the 'Vomit Comet'... too many drunk city types...
Hey Brigger, if you can get your hands on the april 08 issue of American Cycle, you can find a Tech article on installing the K&N air cleaner filter , starting on page 28. Shows step by step installation of the cleaner on a sportster with lots of pretty color pictures. Good Luck mate
I had the same problem. The gap is about 1/8 of an inch and it's because of the two metal cylinders that stick out of the filter. You can grind them down a bit with a dremel. I didn't yet... I just got the cheap $24 stock filter. I know.. I'm lazy...
