Default Rake

I'm looking over the specs on the new Sporty's and noticed that the custom models have a longer wheelbase than the other models. Is this because their rake measurement is different? If so, what component makes the difference? Is it a different frame or a different front end?

Which leads me to my second question. When I see Sportsters all Choppered out, how is that done? Is it a 'bolt on' operation like just replacing ghe front end? Or are modifications made to the neck?

The customs have a 30.1* rake the other models have a 29.6* rake.....that is the reason for the difference in the wheelbase.

Check this site out for extending the front end.

If you want the front end out there you need to cut the neck off and modify the frame. This is quite a bit of work but well worth it if you ask me. mine has a 16 over springer at 55 degrees. 9'- 6" tip to tip

I don't want to change mine, I was just curious if the custom had a different frame or different front end. I'm assuming it's the front end that's different. After checking out ******'s link, it's got me thinking. But that's years down the road. HP mods first.

Doesn't the larger tire have anything to do with it?

I believe if you check, the models with more rake (1200C) have been lowered in the rear, which will affect the rake.

Could be, but that wouldn't explain the longer wheelbase... at least I don't think so.
