Default '69 Sportster Appraisal

My dad is thinking about buying a 1969 Sportstser from my aunt's boyfriend. However he doesn't know the model, just that it's a "'69 Sportster." It's been sitting for a while, the owner is too big to ride it anymore, and it's in Pennsylvania. We live in Michigan, so we'd have to drive down and get it and bring it back on a trailer. I was wondering if I could get maybe a general estimate of what he should be paying for the bike. My aunt's boyfriend said he would find out, but my dad thinks he'll try to rip him off.

It really depends. If it runs and is in decent condition, maybe 2-3k at most.
If it's mint (which I doubt), 3k +
If it's just been sitting.......well.........

That's like guessing the value of a 1969 car, it could be anywhere between $50.00 and $70,000.00
If it runs and the gearbox works butit's in rough shape from sitting (tires and other rubber/vinyl items need replacing) AND you want a project bike it might be worth as much as $2000.00, if it's not running I would not pay more than about $500.00 just to take it home and play with it to see if I could get it running.

Not much...and make sure you find out if it's a right side shift....69 is pretty close to the years they made em, and they're a real bitch to get used to. (Dangerous as hell, too!)

I almost killed myself twice on one of those ****ers....and I'll never ride em again. I can't stand em. They're just goofy, lol.

I know a crazy bastard that's got a '72 IH with a right side jockey setup and a left side shift ****. his throttle is on the right, just like normal. No front brake, drum rear, no grips (exile throttle setup), a +6 inverted narrow springer on a rigid frame runnin 15 lbs. low on the rear tire.

Needless to say....he rides to LIVE. lol

I know a guy who rides a metric with hydraulic clutch. So one day he decides to slap on a jockey shifter (home made!) and just swap the lines from his front brakes and his clutch. haha needless to say it worked but it was scetchy.
