This says it is for 2008 models only, however, see know reason why it will not fit and run on my 2007 bike.
There also seems quite a lot of mis-information on this forum about the sock. One forum says the sock must be worn at all times to prevent bits getting in to the engine - I think this is a load of crxx!
Another forum says the sock must be worn in the rain but will cause the bike to run a little lean.
you need the sock in the rain if its over a drizzle and you dont need it when its not raining at all.
Its OK to leave it on all the time tho. Better have it with you if you get caught in the rain.
best to buy one for your year model tho, you may be sorry
may be a diff, lots of years wont play well together (but Im not positive on diffs 07-08)...
i have the 08 only model on my 07.. fit perfectly fine.. no worries there.. the reason it says 08 only isnt a fitment issue, buta EPA issue.. the 91 and up model isnt street legal in california, the 08 only model is street legal.. that is the ONLY difference.. my dealer wasnt sure, but in the end the 08 fit PERFECTLY..
the rain sock doesnt HAVE to be on, but in the rain you'll want it.. i leave mine on all the time, mostly cuase i like the look.. if anything, it would richen the bike and not lean it..less air flow richens the mixture, but i highlydoubt that sock is gonna change anything..
I run a Force winder which is what harley have copied for the the new SE one. I run the sock on Mine all the time , but it is just there to stop the filter getting wet in the rain. If you think about it the sock if anything would be resticting the air flow which means your mixture gets richer not leaner.
I recently swapped both th road king and sporty to the heavy breather......sock or no sock makes no diff performance-wize, so run it if you want
I just ten minutes ago remapped both bikes but not because of the new A/C's ut instead just to tweek
I needed a few more MPG from the king while cruising, so I dropped the laptop and infrared gun in the saddlebag and took a cruise stopping to tweek her leaner but keeping an eye on head temps.
Then hooked up the sporty and downloaded the accel pump program and tweeked it till all the off idle hesitation was gone
I got both bikes running like scaldd dogs and head temps holding at 285 F.......I am doing the snoppy dog dance!
Glad you elected to go with the heavy breather....I tossed my big sucker and K&N 3909 in the trash...the heavy breather is good stuff, you can't improve on it.
Here is a pic of the sporty right now still connected to the laptop.......Trust me, it's ok to run with or without sock and not have to remap(providing sock is relitively clean)
I have the forcewinder on mine, I would have liked to have gotten the Screamin' Eagle one but was a little afraid of the fitment issue and the forcewinder was cheaper anyway. Still looks bad ***!
I leave the sock on mine all the time. Everyone tells me that the sock won't make a difference in the rain though. Anyone ever get caught in the rain with one of these on?
