hi,
i just bought a 2007 xl1200c with 2040 miles on it. My question is the engine always seems to be "lugging". it has se slipons with the fiberglass material removed. sometimes backfires through the exhaust on deceleration. and sometimes puffs a little black smoke when first started, this is my first harley and first fuel injected bike so i dont really know where to start looking.
thanks,
Allen
probably running lean, but if it's lugging, rev higher. The rev limiter will keep you from being stupid. These spool pretty high and sound a lot higher than they actually are.
its both, the color of the flames is what determines it.
im pretty sure blue flames is lean, yellow flames are rich.
rich is cuased by gas buildup in the muffler, then igniting it with hot gasses also coming out. basically ignition inside the muffle instead of the cylinder.
lean is the flame front starting too late and the flame comes out when the exhuast valve opens, burning the valve and cuasing that combustion to exit and cuase a pop at the end of the pipe.
usually the rich backfires are louder than the lean ones purely becuase of the way it occurs
