Riding into work this morning and was stopped at a light on a 2 lane county road. As the light turned greenI slowly
accelerate passing the "oncoming" traffic waiting to make a left --if you can picture that.
Riding in the left tire track of my lane I pass a SUV waiting to make the turn, soI'm about 3 feet away and when I pass this BIG *** German Shepard almostjumps out the "OPEN window" Barking like an MF and scared the Bejezzus out of me..... [sm=insomnia.gif][sm=yikesomg.gif]. You have any crazy bike and dog stories ?
They love bikes. Don't have that, but what I do when I encounter one is to stop, look at them and say NO. When you stop, they stop. I have the Rotty on my way to work almost trained (he's a good pup, actually).
On my route I have a couple of dogs, fortunately in fenced yards. The Dobie on the corner will come from ANYWHERE in his yard to run the fence line barking. Its kind of funny to watch him, he literally drops what he's doing.
Barking dogs make me a bit jumpy. I've been really leary of dogs since the SO hit the dog in January. Took 2 1/2 months to get the bike fixed and we're still working on him.
They scare me too, but dogs to set a course based on your speed to intercept you. if you slow down and speed up they will over adjust and normally miss. I dont like loose dogs at all either
i was comin down a busy four lane rd down here and a lil husky pup was tryin to cross it and this was at night time. i was in the far right lane, and he was standin on the side of the road closest to my lane. i kept sayin oh dog dont do it , dont do it. well he did it, and i had to pick up my leg so my leg wouldnt hit him but i felt a flap of my jeans swipe his nose, and then my saddle bag smacked him in the head and he yelped and then continued crossing the rd. i guess he thought he was a cat with nine lives. [&:]other than that no dogs really bother me. ive learned to not be afraid of them and they wont be afraid of you. but still never let your guard down
I had a loose dog come after me last season, I hit the gas and took off.
on my way back through the dogs owner yelled at me telling me to slow down.
I stopped and told him I wasn't speeding til his dog came after me. I then told him if his loose dog came at me again, I was simply going to stop, Shoot his dog dead ,then call the police on him for letting his dog run loose.
I would of hated to kill the dog because of his stoopid owner, but I'm not getting bit for anyone.
Pulling beside PU at a stop light on a 4 lane, a big Mastof in the bed of the PU starts barking & growling about 3 ft from my shoulder, I had the clutch in, gave the throttle a full twist, I was startled with how much noise the sporty made with the short shots, so was the dog, he just jumpes back, sat down & shut up. The PU driver just LAO.

During the incident in January that's what I did. I was taught to slow down, then when you get past the dog speed up. (MSF course). Unfortunately there were three of us in the line and when the dog came after me, and I got past, she spun around in a complete circle and ran right in front of SO's front wheel. Unforatunately the did didn't come out on the winning end of that encounter. I'd never seen a dog fold in half like a piece of paper until that day.
I have not had a dog chase me on the Roadster yet, but I used to ride a bicycle in my neighborhood when I lived in town. There was a dog at one particular house that always chased me. I tried peddling as fast as I could to out run him, I tried chili powder in the face, kicking at him, nothing seemed to work. A friend of mine told me to stop and chase the dog. Dang if it did not work. when I stopped and turned on him, he turned tail and ran home. Every day after that when I went by he would bark like crazy, but never left the yard.
