3/8 works fine for anything I need to torque.

I use 3/8" torque wrenches in both in./lbs. and ft./lbs.- most of my sockets and deep sockets are 3/8" and I really don't see a need for 1/2" for the work I am likely and willing to do.

You need a 1" for the 190-210 ft-lb nut on the mainshaft when changing out your rotor or stator, therwise 3/8", you can get 1/4 to 3/8 adapters for any sockets that are 1/4 & require in-lb torque.

You can do it all with one 3/8 5-80lb wrench. Just factor 12"#=1'# beyond that get a 1/2' that goes as high as you need.

I recently bought a 1/4" in. lbs. from Harbor Freight. Before I applied it to my bike, I tested this on a bolt already on some exercise equipment. I set it around 80 in. lbs. I kept applying more and more pressure, the metal which the bolt was attached to actually started to bend. This thing wouldn't click! Then I said #$# it, and applied a great deal of pressure, then it became disengaged and clicked about 20 times. I took it back.

1/2 inch works good for the rear axle, 3/8 works good for inch #s.
