Default Battery Question

I did an search prior to posting and was unable to locate any info. If this is a duplication, my apologies.
I removed the battery for the first time this winter as the storage unit I got was not the heated type and I did not want to encounter any battery issues. The taking out was a bit tough, but the putting back seems impossible.
I stopped after work today to put the battery back in, I was sort of hoping to take her out this week end.
The cables dontpull out anymore, they come up from the back of the tray it sits and the tray appears to be bolted on to the frame.
So I set the battery on the tray, there's not enough room to get in from the side....coming at it from the top, there's a small solid piece
I know it cant be that tough and most likely Im missing something, but what???
Myfriend that used to help and teach me stuff, well the ex is back in the picture so that's that.
Suggestions/pictures ?
thanks in advance

I sent you an email, but hopefully someone can post here about replacing the battery. I KNOW there are people here who have done it (I'm not one of them); just give them a little time to post.

Default RE: Battery Question

I've had my share of battery issues. Needless to say I've had my battery out of my bike a half dozen times this year alone. What I have found to work the best is taking the seat off. I also take the ignition module cover off too. Taking these two pieces off give you a couple extra inches to move the wrench. I also attach the positive first. If the engine is cool then you can set the battery on the edge of the engine just to get the terminals started. Hope this helps.

It is a tight fit, but there is room. Set the battery on the tray with the front/positive terminal side of the battery sticking out of the bike a bit....Attach the negative terminal....You can get a wrench in there, but it will be small turns with it.....Now scoot the front of the battery in a little & attach the positive side of the battery.....slide the battery the rest of the way in and install the cover & lock down......You're done...

I believe the manual says to disconnect the neg. cable from the frame, remove the pos. cable from the battery and pull the battery out with the neg. cable attached, then to reinstall you'd have to fish the neg cable back down to the frame and reattach. Maybe attaching a string to the cable at the frame end would help to pull it back thru during the reinstallation???? -Ed

Default RE: Battery Question

Just replaced my battery last night. WVHogRider has the right idea. Just make sure that the ground terminal is pointing down. If not it will not let the battery slide in all the way as easily. Second, when attaching the pos, keep the wrench from touching any metal part of the bike. Sparks will fly.

Has anyone put an Odyssey battery in one of the new Sporties (aka rubbermounts/post 04)? There's not a match listed on any of the websites for Odyssey.

Thanks

I haven't seen a model from Odyssey for the 04up Sporties but the new HD batteries are now AGM construction. I got one a couple of months ago.
