Default head breather reroute question?

Those of you who have rerouted your head breather, do you run your hose to the mid of your bike with out a filter, or do you run it to the front of the bike with a filter. That is those who are using a single tube reroute. Ive always run my hose to a filter, but i know a lot of guys who simply leave there hose dangling under their bike.

I run mine down to the ground (behind the starter) without a filter. With the umbrella valves already in the crackcase (stock) and the length of the hose (about 2+ ft. in my case) I don't worry about anything sucking back in. In fact, I used to have a shorter hose that terminated just between the heads - I was looking for excessive blowout and didn't find any at all.

I've got a 2000, 883xl, whats up with the breather tube? Last summer it started to leak oil on the rear head, found paper gasket was pinched. Replaced it with metal gasket over the winter havn't found a leak yet.
This is my first HD.
