Looking for a flag mount
Hey guys ... hows everyone doing. Hope every is having a fun safe season.
The wife and I are heading to the mountians Memorial Day weekend. She wants to do the Blueridge Parkway. I was looking for a flag mount and everything I found had a small flag or I would need to do some modification. I found this place and ordered a 3/4" clamp with a 12" x 18" flag (has sewn and not) for $87 bucks including shipping from MA to NC.
... maybe you guys can help with this ... I know its problably going to be "busy" up there. Its probably a good idea to have room / cabin reservations. Ive been on the parkway in different spots but have never travele along the length for any real duration. I know she going to give me the "quick three" tap on the helmet often; our signal to stop for eats, to look at something or to drain. So its going to be tough to know where we will be at night fall.
So its about 5 hours to Front Royal the nothern most entrance. figuring about six hour actual riding day, should put me on the northern edge of Roanoke. Any goog biker friendly Inns ?

I drilled out a 1" hole through both of the wood pieces, and use a 1" heavy duty iron pipe as the flag pole. Had a sliver flag pole topper around from a used "house flag" Cut that off, and used a wooden dowel, and glue to attach the pole topper to the top of the iron pipe. Then painted all of the wood with "chrome paint" It didn't turn out looking like chrome, but it does look like polished aluminum. And I attached a car size Patriot Guard flag to the backside of the wood mount with a metal strap, and wood screws.
Trust me, that mount ain't gonna pull off the bike. Of course, it is usually rolled up when at high speeds, but there have been a few occasions where I have flown the flag at 65 mph. Also look for good quality flags. This is a pretty good source for flags. http://www.cvsflags.com/usflag.cfm
There are many options for flag mounts, that's just the one I came up with.
Thanks guys. I thought of wood. My family's been in the business for years. My old man just retired a few years back ... had worked with wood since age 17, now 76 ... did all facets of interior wood working ... I could have done it with wood but Ive swallowed too much saw dust over the years to want to play with it ...
At any rate ... I attached some pics ..... Not to bad looking and very secure. I like the fact that the flag is multi stitched. The 12 x 18 is a decent size and I dont have to worry about it hitting the ground ...... NOT ON MY WATCH !! Heaven forbid !
Hey ZIMBOB ... I attached a pic of me on my bike during last Decembers Red Knight toy run. Thats my brother (took up where Dad left off) on his Glide on the left, Im on the right on a Vstar and yes I will be dressed the same as in the pic. Wife has a pink helmut and black jacket. If you see us by all means introduce yourself. Figuring on Waynesboro for the first night, Friday, Mount Airy the second, and Asheville the 3rd night.

Be gud guys .. Ill pop in again soon to yak and let ya know how the trip went.
