You are not referring to that plastic star nut are you ? Isnt that for long haul ride to let you ease the hand grip
If not, im not seeing anyting on the cable to turn out.
Should look kinda like this except this is a rusty jap bike. Loosen the small lock nut on each cable and turn until the desired amount of free play is attained.
That worked, but I had to turn out the larger nut to where I almost ran out of thread. I tightened the small nut and i think we are good for now.
I take if I need to do this again that I will need to cut cable ? I removed the throttle cap on handle and see that there is an eye at the end of the cable on a half wheel. If I do need to get shorter what are my next options ?
Also, in order to remove the play, I found that i had to turn large nut counter-clockwise (make it longer). I thought it would be the other way around thinking clockwise would tighten it at grip
get yourself a service manual for your year bike, either the HD one or a clymers or even both wont hurt having. The "fix my hog" DVD for the sportster is great to have also
You should not have to be messing with it at all with a new bike with only 300 miles on it, there must be something else wrong especially if your right at the end of your adjustment already, get it into the dealer. (that is if I understand your post that this is a new bike).
