I was just curious as to what some of you guys mod on your bikes that is either free or cheap? I know some like front fender less look, taking off reflectors, painting stuff, removing the baffles out of the stock pipes... etc. I just wanted to hear what you have done and see pics as well. There is a pretty good chance I will be picking up my new nightster tomorrow
My first mod, chrome valve stem caps $3.99, removed reflectors and all stickers. Careful tucking and ziptying all wires and hoses out of sight as best as possible. Stainless steel seat bolt, nickle (not chrome) acorn nuts available at OSH, , anything used off ebay, plastic chrome toppers for bolts and allen screws, homemade tank lift, garage dooor opener relays, Timex strapped to the handlebar,, polish the rotors, 100W headlamp, homemade laydown licence plate holder, ...alll very cheap mods or finishing touches
i covered my exposed hoses, mainly brake lines, spark plug cable, and gas tank breather, with colored plastic wire tubing, it already helped becuase my breather tube would have been fried since it was resting on the exuast, but the plastic tubing took the burn, (thats what that burning smell was...)
I painted my crossover tube flat black, look at the sig, it hides it well
the entire paint job was done for 15 bucks
white letters on the tires were 7 bucks with the HD pen, but it fades quickly...
my laydown license plate, i just removed the rear support and bent it back. used loctite on the holding bolts and it hasnt budged since.
Polished my Fork sliders for the price of sandpaper, lowered my front fender, slapped some Willie G chrome wing emblems on my swingarm, smoked signal lens covers, removed my belt guards, and alot of polishing. Lot's of other stuff that wasn't cheap.
Take the stock N liscense plate bolt on the part that slides back and forth out. Turn it 90 deg to the right, which will make it on top. then re-insert bolt to hold together. Then attach plate in the vertical position rather than the factory horizontal position. This way it does not stick out so far and gives it a custom looking plate mount. Cost FREE!!
I removed the air cleaner insert. I may be a bit ****, but I just did not like that 1200 metric measurement displayed so boldly on my American made Harley. Thought it would look funny at first, but the all chrome look of the air cleaner cover without an insert is not bad at all. Looks simple and clean.
