1200...3rd gear. It will WORK, and on a level surface and delicate clutch/throttle balance you don't even need to downshift, but I wouldn't suggest it! I've even tried starting out in 4th once...accidentally, of course. I had to downshift, but first had to get enough speed to be able to downshift. That was challenging...as well as VERY embarrassing!
I've taken off in 3rd a few times. Betty will go but she don't like it. Been having some instances when the shifter feel like it down in first but it is in 2nd or third. Hope it's just me not being precise enough and not a sign of the transmission goin'.
I have *never* done that! Also, I have never hit neutral when going from 1'st to 2n'd. And only a complete moron would upshift when they meant to downshift, or worse, downshift when they meant to go up! Nope... never done any of those things**
I'm a new rider and still kick myself every time I do something silly / dumb / unsafe / dumb / silly on the bike.
I know there are a lot of miles represented here on these posts. It really helps to know that I'm not a complete tool and it is normal. Granted it means I'll be doing dumb stuff like missing a shift or dropping into Neutral forever (there are a lot of miles represented here ) but hey some day I'll get better.
