Does anyone know why my GF's 2002 sporty 883 is dieseling? It has 3000 miles on er. it runs maybe 2 to 3 seconds after she shuts the run switch or key off. Thanks
Junk gas is starting to be a big problem around Houston. With gas going up everyday, lots of people are going to offbrand gas stations to save 3 pennies a gal. You never know what your getting.[:@]
check your spark plugs. and run seafoam or techron for a few tanks, see if it gets better.
happens often to bikes that run richer than required. excess carbon builds up. stays hot after igntion is off, and keeps the gas combusting until it stops glowing, which is why it only runs for a few seconds after shutdown.
3,000 miles on an 8 year old bike? It's probably protesting about the lack of use, 375 miles/yr.
Dieseling is usually caused by 1 of 2 things, low octane fuel and/or carbon buildup on the heads. Like Thumper26 said, run a couple of tanks of 91+ octane through it but also add Seafoam to the fuel. You can get it at most auto parts stores and if I remember correctly, you add 1 oz. for each gallon of fuel. The instructions are on the can. Next, take the bike out and run it hard to help burn out what carbon may have built up.
Low octane gas is more prone to carbon deposit buildup than higher octane fuel.
Yup! She has been running 87 octain for the last few fillups. I will try some 91 in it to see if that helps. Probably new plugs would be a good idea since they look like origanals to me. Jen is new to the bike and really doesen't give it the throttle like we do. I'll have to take er out for a couple hours to clean er out. Thanx for some good Input from ya all.
