Just picked up my new '08 Nightster Friday. Stealer must have filled fuelat half tank cause around 44 miles my low fuel warning light came on. I put 10-15 more miles on before I filled up...when I opened the tank I could still see gas, maybe 1/4-1/2 tank...took 8 bucks to fill...just a hair over 2 gallons($3.95 a gallon). Anyway about 5 miles later the LOW FUEL LIGHT came on again! I do not have a leak...LOL.
Just wondering if I was supposed to reset somthing or what? The OwnersManual has only info on that light listed in the spec sheetand just states that it comes on at 0.8 gallons remaining. I have nothing installed yet except H-D Skull gas cap. (gift from Wife)
any help would be greatly apperciated[8D]

Lol welcome to the 07's and 08's. For some reason the low fuel warning light on these year models are faulty. Just ignore the light and use your trip odometer, If you want to take it back to your dealer, they wll probably replace it under warranty, but it still might be faulty.
id run a couple more tanks thru it and if it still happens id take it back to the dealer.. the low fuel light is their for a reason and u shouldnt have to rely on your trip meter in my opinion but if ur happy with keeping up with the miles on ur trip then thas cool..that is a 3.3 gallon tank so u should get at least 100 miles or a little morebefore the low fuel light came on
Huh. The low fuel light on my 08 1200R has gone on twice. Both times around 110 miles. When I fill it, it takes about 2.5 gallons to fill. I thought this was weird.
I have an 09 Nightster with a fuel light that comes on whenever it wants, any gas amount in the tank, including full. The dealer has been very nice and very prompt. My speedometer has been replaced - the fuel light stayed off for 2 weeks . I thought it was fixed. Now the low fuel light is doing it again. Next they installed a resistor under the seat. It didn't help, the low fuel light came on driving home from the dealer. Each time the engine is turned off the light "resets" itself. The fuel light usually comes on at Interstate speeds. The light is an annoyance since the "check engine" light is the same color and at speed sometimes its hard to tell which yellow light is on. I believe the next visit I will see if the light can be disabled. I always use the odometer for fuel stops. Good luck with yours!
I waited in the lobby while it was being replaced. It took about 2 hours to complete (I had an appointment).
Signing my paperwork to leave and the tech says he just got a call from another 09N guy who is having the same problem. According to him it's a known issue and it's happening a lot.
Come to think if it, I am a little surprised they had an extra low fuel sensor on the shelf to replace on mine. Doesn't seem like a part a deal would normally have on stock if they weren't replacing them regularly.
luckily mine has been pretty consistent, well, since they had to replace my fuel pump under warranty (took them over a month to replace a fuel pump and a bad neutral indicator light, don't go to sun harley in thornton, co anymore ) but since then mine has come on at exactly 1 gallon to empty lol
i usually get about 85-110 till the light comes on, btw i have a 07 883L, 6' 260 lbs and fits pretty good with the forwards on it
