I had previously bought a HD service manual
 \\;
Simple steps...not going it to a whole lotta detail...
oil change
1. \\; gathered supplies
2. \\; rode bike down to store to get icee and back to heat it up
3. \\; parked bike in shade, put shallow oil pan under bike
4. \\; check intial level of oil before change, then cleaned dipstick and set on clean soft cloth
5. \\; unscrew hose clamp a few turns \\;on oil drain plug tube located mid rearunder bike, looks like a little cow nipple
6.pull on plastic nipple to get it out of hose, while holding hose...kinda need both hands, so you dont screw up hose by pulling on it
7. \\; once out, clean plastic nipple and set aside on clean soft cloth
8. \\; Oil drains
9. \\; I used a large pair of channel locks and unscrew oil filter a few turns-be careful not to nick any parts in that area...
10. \\; I fashioned 2 pieces of hard paper to slide under filter against block to channel oil away from bike that will come out of the filter when it is removed
11. \\; placed oil pan under paper concoction to catch the oil
12. \\; unscrewed filter all the way
13. \\; let drain a few minutes.
14. \\; once fully drained, took clean shop towle and cleaned oil filter area really well
15. \\; took new filter filled 3/4 of way with new oil and lubed the gasket with new oil...let it sit to soak in to filter element
16. installed filter quickly as to not spill oil
17. \\; tightened hand tight...no more
18. \\; this step can be skipped, but i do it religiously on all my vehicles...no criticisms please....I took 1/2 quart of clean oil and ran it through the canister and hopefully the motor...the oil that comes out is always a little darker...so it seems to pick up dirtyoil on the way out
19. \\; install drain plug/nipple and add about another 1/2 quart of oil, pull nipple out untill oil comes out, then replace and tighten clamp...DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN CLAMP! \\; Book says to do this to keep the oil pump from cavitating...I personally don see how this is possible giving that the air would be in the resevoir...but who knows...
20. fill oil, take 2.6 quarts...should be just about right, and you should have 1 full quart left
21. \\; started up, made sure oil light went out(went out really quickly BTW because of oil in filter), drove around block, checked for leaks
primary clutch service
1. \\; put drain pan under bike
2. \\; loosen drain plug and drain into pan, clean drain plug from and set aside on clean towel
3. \\; remove inspection cover and clutch cover-removing the inspection cover seemed like a complete waste of time...its a brand new bike do these things really need to be adjusted??? \\; Mine did NOT
4. \\; stand bike straight to get all old oil out of primary
5. \\; install new o ring on plug and put back in, tighten and torque to 25-30ft lbs
6. \\; Pour 1 full quart of Mobile 1 20-50 syn v twin oil through clutch cover, you will need long skinny funnel, book says the bottom of the gear should be slightly emersed in oil...1 quart worked perfectly
7. \\; install clutch cover gasket back in groove to put cover back on...this was a pain in the ***...finally got it...I wet it down with oil and had friend hold bike at an angle so gravity was helping me instead of hurting me while it was on the jiffy stand. \\;
8. \\; Cleaned screws, put blue locktite on them. \\; installed cover hand tightened in star pattern...not very tight...my torque wrench doesnt do small Newton meter settings, so I just hand tightened...I will check later to make sure they are still snug
9. install inspection cover with gaskets and o rings
10. \\; started up, drove around the block and checked for leaks
ALL OTHER STUFF
Book goes into about 12 other things to check...most notable was critical fastners \\; I checked all the critical fastners made sure everything was tight
 \\;
brakes, didnt need anything, air filter...brand fricking new....belt tension was fine...brake fluid was fine...everything else was fine
 \\;
spent total of about 50 bucks, took about 2 hours total, with me farting around and riding the bike...
 \\;
dealer wanted 250 bucks to do this...I have never seen a bigger rip off in my entire LIFE!! \\; there is no majic and mirrors, just a simple step by step procedure
 \\;
I cant tell you guys how glad I am for having done this myself...it would sicken me to know how easy this was to pay them 250 dollars!
 \\;
Dont use my list as a procedure to your oil change, without fully understanding what your doing...in otherwords dont blame me if you do something stupid...I was a little curious myself before changing the oil if anyone had typed up some steps...didnt see any, so thats why I did it. \\; Hopefully it helps other people...I did take some pictures but I have not upoaded them...
 \\;
now what to do with the 200 dollars I saved????

 \\;
See, THIS is why I have to take it to the dealer to get the service done!
