Default Please Help - it happened

Well it finally happened, i didn't want it to, but i got that feeling. They told me I would not have the sportster long. The softail deluxe is looking better and better everyday. What do I do...i just put about 650 into the sporty but I just got a huge raise and can afford a step up now.

What do I do?

Go ahead and loose a **** ton of money and make the switch.

Its only money after all.

Someone will be grateful that you took the hit on "off the lot" depreciation for them.

Give it a day or two and if it's still bothering you go ahead and do it and never look back.

honestly oyur best bet is to test ride the bike because it is going to handle alot different and wont feel as peppy as the sporty so just ask yourself what you want to do with the bike. i would really recomend ride your bike to local dealer so you can feel it right b4 the test ride. i mean overall bike choice is up to you. personally ive ridden a few road kings a fatboy a nighttrain and a wide glide other than my nightster. but being im a huge fan of old school bobbers and ***** out performance i love my bike and personally fit just as good on it was i would anything else. and im 6'3" 260lbs. so im not a small guy. but your best bet is without riding it dont decide because its going to feel slower and the handling def wont be as responsive. but they are a great bike if thats what your looking for.

Devil's advocate: 1) you already have a great bike that most people would love to be riding.
2) you want that softail for sure, or is just the allure of a bigger Harley?
3) common mistake is to get raises and spend more...you never really get any financial stability that way.

Pay yourself first with the increase in salary (retirement, kids college, house, savings, etc.). You don't need a new bike yet...enjoy your ride until next spring. If you still really want the softail, it'll be there for you and as someone already mentioned there will be one grateful rider who gets your sportster...

We ALL have a tendency to impulse buy and spend what we make and sometimes more....always catches up to you in the end.

congrats on the raise and whatever you decide....

2009 1200 Nightster (No mods, I don't know how to use most tools...)

I love my Sportster and bought one because I had always wanted one. I have had it since April and am approaching 7000 miles. I ride quite a bit and now my wife is going with me more, that has made me realize it would be useful to have a big twin. So, I will be buying a big twin within the next 6 months and will be keeping the Sportster as well. There is no use taking the loss on trade in on such a great bike and I will be able to share the miles between the two. Don't know how big of a raise you got, but have you thought of having both?

I have my 03 Road King and my 07 XL50. Love them both. If you have the means, and the wife allows it, get both. It depends on what I feel like as to which one I ride. If we're doing two-up, its the Road King, or for lengthy trips. But zipping round town, I right the Sporty. They are entirely two different bikes and two entirely different kinds of fun. One isn't any better than the other, just different. And different, in this case, is GOOD!

I can speak volumes to what was mentioned earlier. Keep your current bike for at least a year. Especially with summer winding down. You'll get less for it trying to sell it now, than in the spring, anyway.

You will have to ride that Softail to make up your mind. Lots of Softails and Sportsters on Craigslist at a good price...with mods already done. You can sell the Sportster to a private party, or wangle the best deal you can with an HD dealer.
