Default New bars = new cables?

So I got a few bucks to spend and was wondering if new bars = new cables? I was cruisin around www.jpcycles.com and saw some nice narrowglide apes (part# 5000840). Do I need to buy new cables if I buy them? If I do need to buy new cables, do I have to buy them from H-D or is there another place that wont charge me my first born child? ANy info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

On my 10.5" mini-apes, I went with a 6" over clutch cable along with all new front brake lines and fittings from Drag Specialties. It didn't have to be from them. J&P Cycles would have been fine. I went with Drag Specialties as my Harley dealer is close by and they are a distributer and I didn't have to pay shipping. The only and best way to do it is to put the new bars on, then measure. I did buy some 4" wire extensions through Harley but I could have just cut and splice. The extensions were around $40 I think. I didn't have to change the throttle cables, but I did have to re-route them around the forks. My brake line project was the hardest as my Roadster had a single piece manifold/line set-up as mine has dual front discs. A single brake set-up would have been a lot easier and cheaper.

If I decide to go to 12" minis, the only mod I would need now is to replace my upper brake line as I went with a modular set-up vs. the factory one piece unit. The wire extensions and other cables have enough slack to work with. As far as the wires go, I have heard that the 2007 models and up have more slack in the wires so there is no need to do anything to them. My 2006 didn't quite have enough. Hope this helps some. Good luck.

ok i have the 10" harley black mini apes and they are fine with stock cable you will just need to manipulate the brake line but its easy you just need flat head pliers and a towel and go slow to striaghten out the small tube area. also i rerouted the throttle and idle cables outside the forks. and i can put my bars in any position not jus forward.

OK the apes that are in the sportster section of the new Harley catalog are 10"? That isnt bad. I am only 5'5", so that sounds a tad more comfortable. When reading the description though, it doesnt say that any extra hardware is needed. If I call Harley and ask them, are they going to try and sell me the kitchen sink? I plan on having H-D do the work since Ive never done anything like this before....unless someone around here lives in the North Port/Port Charlotte FL area and wants some free beer or something .

if they do the work, then you are probably going to have to buy a brake line and they will try to sell you cables.

Can't blame them on the brake. I would bend my own ( and have ) but I would not do one for a customer.

I would love to do it myself, but I would feel more comfortable changing everything out with someone that knows what they are doing. The last thing I want to do is void my warranty because I screwed up my bike LOL!!

if your not changing the cables serious;y do ti yourself. but if your going to change the cables then i can understand if you dont have the experience. the job is very easy tho. my dealer quoted me 800 bux to have new cables and bars installed. i said f that and made stock ones work only cost me 60 bux. altho now i want to go higher so ima have to change the cables. but ima just do it myself.

On my 2000 883 I went from the stock buckhorns to 12" narrowglide apes and didnt extend any wires or buy new cables. I just rerouted the throttle cables. I did have to loosen the clamp holding the brake line and bend it.
