Default Windshield questions...

As it's starting to get nippy in the morning around here, I'm thinking of getting a quick-release windshield for my '08 Sporty 883L.

My question, to those of you with more experience with windshields, is do they make a marked difference in comfort in colder-weather riding? Or is it a waste? I would think that cutting down the blast of cold air as I ride would be a help in keeping warm, but not ever having ridden a bike with a windshield I can't really know.

Also, there are several quick-release models available, which size would you recommend for this purpose? Thanks.

My full length windshield does not help much,it is great for rocks, road debrie, bugs but I get hit with quite a bit of wind.Full face and electric gloves and the ever famous lined chaps will be your best bet as the temps drop.

Windshield helps, definitely. No, it's not a magic cure unless you have a full fairing and lowers. I also have "engine guard chaps" to act as lowers. Still not a magic cure but it helps also. Combined, that's what I run with in the winter. Also, a balaclava with modular helmet, and proper lightweight LAYERED riding attire. If ya end up feeling like the Michelin Man, you've got too many clothes on. Remember that kid in "A Christmas Story"? "I can't put my arms down!"

I think the Windshield makes a huge difference in the cold. It certainly doesn't make 40* feel like 75*, but the morning commute is much easier to take with the windshield on. I figure it wil extend my riding season a month on both ends.

I have a quick release windshield that I'm going to put on, probably next week, to try to cut down on cold in the mornings, because I've been wondering the same thing, and looking at it sitting in the corner of the garage. It's probably around 16 years old, and when I put it on the bike, just can't come to terms with that bubble look on the front of the bike, so if it's going to stay, it has to be useful.

I've had a windshield on my bike since day one. I took it off once and don't know how people ride without one. In colder weather it makes a huge difference as it keeps the cold wind off your torso. As for your head, hands and legs, you'll have to combat the cold with better clothing to keep warm.

I've got the Memphis Shades Del Rey w/ trigger lock quick release. It takes about 10 seconds to remove. I hate windshields, but I use my Scoot to commute to work (5 miles), & it does make a difference on cool mornings.

I have always rode with a shield. It makes for a better ride I think. Not sure how it will keep you warm. I agree with Spurs. How cold is it we are still in August?

Wisconsin.

The last few mornings it has been 48-49 degrees. It usually doesn't warm up until 9-10am.
