Our Sportster, fuel injected 883, with the CHT sensor mounted on the front cylinder motor mount in the V, runs between 160 and 240-ish F. 240-ish when stopped and idling a while and obviously getting hot, 160-180-ish cruising at highway speeds. I pulled these numbers out of the data logs.

Mine typically runs around 200F on a normal commute to/from work. However, temps are going to vary depending on your location, (due to weather, average temps, altitude, riding style, etc.).

Cool weather riding easy about 180, hot weather riding easy about 200, hot weather in traffic or riding hard as much as 225 or so.
(thats oil temp by the way, according to my HD dipstick gauge)

These have been Oil Temps they have given you. You'd have to shoot the jugs with a laser temp gauge to tell for sure. 300ş is not much.
