Default Seat - Tailbone

Greetings

I've been reading threads about seats and what I haven't found is what attributes to the pain in the tailbone. I've got a 2004 1200C with stock seat.

I am thinking it's the lip on the back of the seat thats causing the pain.

So what does contribute to the tailbone pain ?

BTW, I've also been look at the Sundowner.

I don't know, but I've made numerous 350+ daily runs on my 2005 1200C (with the stock seat), and I've never had any discomfort caused by the seat.

I set pretty far back on the seat as well, because at 6'2" and with a 34+ inch inseam I'm pretty cramped for legroom with the so called 'forward controls' uned on the 2004+ Sportsters.

ah I forgot to include some details of me...

I'm 6'3 around 270 and a rather short inseam of 30" (sometimes 32").

Is some of the "tailbone pain" part of being a new rider ?

Seem's the newer bikes with efi have less foam in the seats. I switched out to a mustang vintage solo and love it,I can easily ride 3 or 4 hundred miles in a day with a smile.

Mine being a 2004 has a carb.

The thing I worry about is buying something without at minimum sitting in it to get a "feel" for it.

hmmm...I've never gotten any tailbone pain and have done 650mile rides.
The only time my tail bone has ever hurt was from sitting on the ground.

It may just be an individual problem for yourself, try a different seat.

I have the sundowner...no complaints.

A little shorter, a little lighter with same inseam. Tried Mustang Solo and had a 50% improvement in comfort but still can't do long hauls. I think that's part of being an "old" rider. Next step is an FLSTC seat mounted on a new STC. Getting old fast and want to ride in comfort for a while longer. Besides....the Wife said it was OK.

It seems from the threads I've been reading that the top contenders for replacements seats are the Sundowner and the Mustang.

I think it's an 'individual thing' depending on a persons weight, how they are built, etc....

I'm almost the same height as you, but I only weigh 182, so that might make a difference as well.

Also, after riding 700,000+ miles during the past 36 or so years on all models of Harley's my butt has probably gotten use to sitting for long periods of time on just about any seat.

But like they say, different bottoms prefer different seats....
