Bought a 08 nightster new 2 months ago. Had dealership install 10in. mini's and forward contols. They used Chromite Magnum Black Pearl cables. 3 clutch cable replacements, many trips to the dealership service depatment and no help from magnum shielding (at least so says the dealer) still leaking oil from the clutch cable down at the fitting. I'm looking for ideas for a different set of cables. Any ideas/help would be great Thanks
Just buy the HD ones. If the Magnum is the correct length, measure the difference between that one and your stock one and buy one through HD. I bought a longer clutch cable from HD when I replaced my bars. Also, are you remembering the o ring?
If your clutch cable fitting is leaking primary fluid then it may have been crossthreaded into the primary or the o-ring was not installed. Or the installer used the wrong cable on the wrong bike. Chances are though they probably crossthreaded the fitting or simply forgot the o-ring. BTW I just installed the magmun chromite polished stainless cables on my wife's 08 xl custom and everything fits just fine, no leaks. I also just installed barnetts cables on my bike(see sig) and they seem to be of similar quality so far. Good Luck and Ride Safe!
I was concerned about the install, i.e cross-thread or o-ring, but after 3 cables I gotta start wondering about the cables themselves. Does Barnett make a "dark" cable, not just black vinyl?
