Default ape hangers for a sportster

hey all i have a 2005 883L. i am looking to put on a set of apes very shortly but i am having trouble figuring out the sizing. i am about 5'8''and i would like my hands to be just above shoulder level. i was thinkin 15'' but not sure if those are going to be too high. are risers necessary with the bars? and lastly how much does the cable extension kit cost, and where is the best place to order it from? if anyone has any input, info, or pics for me i would greatly appreciate it. thankyou.

Do an Ebay search for "ape hangers" and find the Hill Country Custom Cycles. They'll sell you the apes and cables as a kit. They even have pre-drilled bars available as a kit, and all you have to do is extend your wiring by cutting/splicing. I think you have the short risers already with the L, but not sure. For me-5'10", I think I'm going to go with some 14's when I order, but not sure yet.

You may have to extend your wires and purchase longer cables. Risers are not needed, like on mine.

The apes on my Sporty in the attached picture are off a StreetBob. These should put your hands just below your shoulders. You'll need to buy throttle cables, brake line and extend your wiring harness.

take a tape measure and cardboard trace out a T 15" tall and about 30 to 32" wide and center in middle of ur risers and sit on bike and just hold it up to feel what theyd be like. its a lot cheaper then ordering the wrong bars and being disapointed.

If you got friends you can also have them build you ape's. Mostly for the price of the pipe. I would go with the T outta cardboard to, that makes alot of sense instead of buying one accidentally too short or two big.
