Default P0373 Trouble Code

Otherwise known as the Crank Position Sensor. My 2007 883 only has 1300 miles on it, and the P0373 code is indicated. It's only $54 to replace, but it seems odd that this simple sensor would fail so early. Yeah, I pulled it off and cleaned it (even though it didn't need it) and I still have the same problems of the bike firing, but it will not stay lit. One day it was fine, the next day it was kaput. Any scoop about this type of failure? Thanks.....

I've been seeing these alot lately. Had two buddies locally that both had their Crank sensors go bad and helped fix another guy's bike at the Harley 105th anniversary that had problems with his too. Maybe Harley got a bad batch.

Just replace my CPS yesterday. The bike wasn't stalling but I was getting spark knock when the engine was hot and I accelerated hard. It just depends on how bad the sensor is failing what symptoms it will produce, but the P0373 code means it's best to replace the CPS before it leaves you stranded.

Doo Doo happens.

Roger that. I'm glad it happened to be an issue in my garage, vice out on the street.

Mine went with less than 2000 miles. Seems too common.

Yeah, it's under warranty, but I don't feel like the hassle of haulin' the bike in, plus I'd rather not let anyone touch my bike. I know the consequences of not having a dealer do the work, but I'll take the risk and document my issue.

I hear ya, for 54 bucks I'd probably do it myself too.

So, i got a 2008 dyna on my shop...

I got the PO373 diag....them later the DIAG was showing me NO RSP...i change the CKP sensor...i got PO373/PO661/PO662...the guy has a vances&hines without sensor.

The bike is giving the CKP problems...flames on the back fire, acceleration is irregular...sometimes is dying.

Any tips?

Thanks!

They’ve a reputation for failing. I’m working on a 2000 Dyna WG now that I picked-up last fall. That bike has a crank and a cam position sensor. Both were bad and cost $75 to $80 each.

I disagree agree with your decision to repair yourself vs. warranty. In addition to the $$ cost, running those wires through the insulated sheath and messing with the connectors is a PITA … at least on the Dyna. Let HD pay for it.
