Default 09 XL1200C vs. 09 Nightster

I had my heart set on an all black Nightster and was set to pick it up last weekend but then I saw the 1200C sitting next to it.

I am having a real hard time deciding on which one to get. I love the forward controls, passenger pegs and the passenger seat already on the Custom. The Chrome looks killer out in the sun.

My dealer wants like $1100 for the forward controls alone on the Nightster. I have to have those because I cannot stand the mid controls.

They want $10,250 for each bike but I will have to dump like $2000 extra into the Nightster to get the things on it that I want.

Will the Nightster hold its value better than the Custom? I want to get one of these two now and then sale it in a year or two and get a Street Bob right after.

I thought long and hard about the nightster before I got my 1200C, but as you stated forward controls, 2 up seat, and passenger pegs helped sway me towards the C. don't forget the 4.5 gallon gas tank. Also the chrome looks killer!

At times I wish I bought the Nightster insted, I like all the black on the Nightster. Why don't they build a Nightster with forward controls. That's a great price for a 2009, I paid $10,550 for my 2008 XL1200C.

ur dealer charging you 1100 for forwards is insane. The black forwards only cost 400, plus 200 labor (give or take)...It should cost you at the most 600 to put on forwards on the nightster.

I was originally interested in a Nightster, but the same thing happened. Saw the 1200 Custom in Orange and Black and my decision was made for me. Never regretted it. Not knocking the Nightster at all though, I still think they are sweet looking bikes.

1100 for forwards is nuts. Pay $300 for the parts and install them yourself.

I had decided to get a 08 Roadster but when I went to a dealer in another town and spoke with the salesman there (super knowledgeable and had ridden a Sporty years back), he suggested a Custom. I was actually a bit wary of the forward controls, but now I love them. I don't think I could handle mid controls - a comfort issue. I did end up changing up the seat though - the HD seat hurt my butt.

Why don't you just buy the Street Bob now?

used nightsters are hard to find at a dealership right now so the value should still be high if you sell it outright compared to a custom. relatively brand new model, it's popular, and the dealers that i talked to said that they don't stay on the floor that long.

i would agree with the above poster and just get the streetbob. i was on the same boat, i had a nightster and i wanted something bigger and was looking at the streetbob and nighttrain to keep the all black look. it will save you money on the long run if you are planning on getting rid of a new sportster in a year or two

Grab a few beers, go back, study both bikes. One of them will jump out and bite you.
