Default Inspection Cover

Anything special in changing the Inspection cover? I have a 2009 Nightster and just want to make sure it is as easy as removing the 2 screws in the old and replacing with the new. Will anything leak once i remove the old? And are there torque specs, or just hand tighten? Thanks....

You mean the chain inspection cover?

If so I would recommend a new gasket. Nothing will leak out when you remove the cover but the gaskets don't seem to seal up a second time. You can reuse the old one, but just be ready to wipe a drip/run off the primary case each time you ride.

My new inspection cover came with a new gasket. Yours should too, if its genuine HD. Like mrb stated above, I suggest you use the new one

The chain inspection cover has been superseeded so the new gaskits will not work with the old cover, sooooo you have to get the new cover the first time. BTW the new gaskit will leak like a sive with the old cover. Not sure why harley did the change, but I am sure they will make a killing on it.

This is no joke!! If you are doing your own services, or even taking it somewhere, make sure if you use the new gasket you get a new cover! I did my clutch and primary chain adjustment two weeks ago. The clutch cover sealed nicely, however today when I went to ride, gear oil was blowing all over the primary from the chain inspection cover. Called the dealer and the parts lady said " Oh yea you can't use the new gasket with the old cover. You need both new." Well thanks to the parts guy who sold me the gasket, I will be making another trip to the dealer tomorrow
