I have a 883 sporster and plan on just buying the straitshot slip-ons. There 250. But the whole system runs 500 bucks. Is paying that much more worth getting the whole system? Where is the difference is it in sound or performance, maybe both? Thanks again...
Hi: I bought a set of Vance and Hines Straightshots off of ebay for 324 which included shipping.
I think they were 299. They are new and look and sound great and have full 220 degree heat shields from the headder to the muffler. Just type in Vance and Hines Straightshots. Good Luck. [sm=trust_me.gif]
Eye of the beholder - just like everything else. I went with slip-ons. I got the performance I wanted for $130. Could I have had more performance with full pipes? Dunno. My slip-ons sound and perform good enough. For me it was a question of space and cost.
Slip-ons seemed easier to swap if I need to battle a "fix-it ticket". Although I know it's only a couple extra bolts for the header pipes. But it's easier to store just mufflers than a full exhaust too.
Really depends on what kind of power and torque you're looking for out of the bike. If you want more low end torque, stick with slip-ons. If you're looking for more power in the higher RPM range, then go with the full system. I went with Vance and Hines Straighshot HS slip-ons because I wanted more low end torque. Keep in mind, your carb jetting and A/C also play a role in getting extra performance out of the bike. Since I did the full stage 1 on my bike, I can't tell if it's actually faster per se, but I can tell it has much more torque. It pulls much harder than when it was stock. It's much more responsive too and oh yeah, it sounds like a real Harley now too. Hope this helps a little....
oh ya, thanks for the respley's. I ended up ordering the V&H slip-ons. I like low end power there already on there way. Instead of having to get it re-jetted, Can't i just un do the battery for a while and let the computer reprogram itself, or am i thinking wrong?
Unplugging your battery will do nothing more than turn off all electrics.
The Sporty needs a rejet to get the power unleashed form a free-flow exhaust. To benefit from a Stage 1 mod you have to change to a free-flow AC, rejet, and add the free-flow exhaust. The BT's that use EFI might need a reflash, but not the normally aspirated Sporty.
i had se slip ons, didn't like em, bought v&h short shots staggered, nice pipes, very happy with sound and power, no dead spots in
throttle response, best bang for the bucks.
