Default Rear Rocker Cover Gasket

I've got to replace the upper rear rocker cover gasket. Anybody done this? Looks to be fairly simple and straight forward. I just wondered if there are any of those little hidden things to avoid.

Thanks!

Not to bad a job... I would recommend replacing the fiber washers (4) on each of the rocker cover screws. Careful of the sensor wire that runs through the center of the cover, you can disconnect it just down from the seat, but don't let the wire bind and put stress on the connection to the sensor in the head... You have to fiddle a bit with the cover to work it off and clear from the frame but it will come out ( make sure the screws are completely removed, one of mine really wanted to stay locked into the cover).... Oh yeah and a rocker cover wrench is a nice to have, looks like a flat metal ruler with a hex nub on it... MotionPro ~$8

I just replaced the head and rocker box gaskets (front cyl.) on my 06 Sportie. It was relatively easy, about 4.5 hrs.. Replacing the upper gasket should be an easy 2 hours.

dang, poor Sporties thread is reduced to ***'s and bags. lol

It's easy to do SP. But as LidDown said you have to find the magic spot that the cover comes out. Its almost like one of those dam wire puzzles.

I tried to replace my rockers with chrome ones.I got the tank off and the top cover off but I couldn't wiggle the spacer off.It wouldn't clear the frame.I tried for about an hour but gave up.I have all the chrome pieces and gaskets sitting in the garage.I might try again over the winter but if I can't do it I will probably have to go to the dealer.

Coze.....Yes, if your going to wrench on your scoot, it would be a good idea to have a ft/lbs & a In/lb wrench. I can't recall the exact specs for the covers right now.

Booey....It will come out/off.....Quit working while drunk...
