I want to get the tins on my black nightster sprayed with at flat clear coat. A shop out of state has quoted $800 shipping included. He has guaranteed that he could keep original Harley tag in tacked and that the tins would would have a nice flat finish without a complete re-paint. I am looking for something similar to the Harley Denim Black paint or the flat black on the grey/black nightster. This seems a little high to me for just a clear coat, but I have no experience with painting bikes. Any input would be greatly appreciated. The job includes tank, rear fender, battery cover, oil tank, and heavy breather housing. No front fender.
wait... that is JUST for the clear? then HELL NO that is not a good price!
honestly... if you are just going to do a matt clear... you can get the equipt from harbor freight and shoot it yourself for prob like 100 bucks... it is a matt clear so prep and finish will be super easy!
do it yourself, just buy the equipment or rent it, and read some how to articles on the internet (google is great!) then practice on a couple different materials get the feel for it, and just take off your tank and fender and blast it in your garage!!!
i did my paintjob for under 10 bucks and just 2 hours of labor removing all the parts. the real time waster was letting everything dry before putting it back on the bike
Ya... I didn't think so either. I am in downtown Chicago so it shouldn't be that hard to locate some cheap equipment. I have a background in art and will probably atempt it myself. Do you guys have any links on prep work and/or materials for this process. Thanks again for your input.
that is WAY OVER KILL!!!!! Theres a Custom Paint shop just for bikes here where i live. http://www.929customs.com/paint.html They were going to strip my tank "4.5 gallon off a 2007 sportster. Repaint it all Black and clear coat for $250. I willing to bet he'd do it ALOT cheaper. Call and ask for doug
