Default rain gear issues

so i'm having issues with my rain gear pants. the bottoms are letting water in and get the bottom of my pant legs wet. the pants have velcro straps at the bottom and i velcro them as tight as i can around my boots.

while riding the pant legs stay in place very well but water is being forced in through the tiny bit between my rain gear pantleg and boot. its pissing me off.

anyone got any ideas i could try to remedy this? i'm thinking i'm going to hit up an army surplus store and see if i can get those elastic thingys that are used for BDU pantlegs. i'm hoping maybe if i put that above the bottom of my pantleg it will keep my pantleg even more snug.

if not...i'm gonna be looking for new pants. it rains just about every day and i don't feel like being wet when its cold out.

anyone got any pants recommendations? or tips?

harley has some rain gaiters that are really nice. they are about $40. they cover your boot toe and wrap all the way around your entire calf all the way up to your knee. I have a pair and they work awesome. if you don't buy harley accessories for whatever reason, I know there are some other companies that make them. maybe a quick Google search will find out...

+1 on the gaiters. Great concept and work for snow sports and hunting.

If you commuted today (Thursday) in Seattle, as I did into Tacoma from Puyallup, I don't know if any rain gear would have kept you dry. I rode to work in fairly heavy rain, and rode home in a downpour. My rain paints (First Gear) let water through at both knees and at the crotch. My boots are pretty warn out, so thats really my fault. A co worker of mine rode to work and was totally soaked through-luckily he brought a change of clothes. I ride every day because we're down to one car. I'm trying a newer set of rain gear on Friday-we'll see how they work. I may get a pair of thoses gaiters too,

Jon

The Harley gaitors and Frogg Togs work for me.Although the toggs got a little melty when I wore them on the Sport - got alittle too close to the exhaust pipe.

Many guys I know carry a cheap pair of Frogg Toggs, and they seem to work as well as the 'high price' stuff.

Old biker trick is to put a few strips of duct tape on the lower leg where it might come in contact with hot pipes.

Works great.

yeah i did commute today and it was pretty bad...haha. the rest of my rain gear was fine. i couldn't even tell it was raining for the most part except for the wet feeling at my legs.

i have an idea i'm going to try on my way to work monday....or if i go riding this weekend.
