Do V&H side shots offer better performance than short shots? And if so, is that why the side shots are so much more expensive?

If you really care about performance you wouldnt be considering duals at all....

to answer your question both perform like crap.
One looks better so its in higher demand= higher cost.

OK then, so what is good for a 2 into 1 for performance?

I run a Hooker 2into 1 but I have heard people swear by the bubs and the
V&H, fatcats, the thunderheaders. you will hear all sorts of opinions.... my opinion is hookers are the best followed by the supertrapps..

but any good 2into 1 will net you 7-8 ponies over the duals where you will be using the most torque.(low to mid range)...

Sideshots have a powerchamber that attaches both pipes together. IF performance is your concern you might want to look at longer pipes as they offer better scavenging for the exhaust.
